Cambodia Seeks to Boost Agricultural Product Processing

PHNOM PENH, August 16, 2024 — The Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries is calling for increased investment in the processing of agricultural products to enhance quality for both domestic markets and exports.

During a meeting at the Cambodia Agrifood Trade and Investment Forum, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Phnom Penh on August 14, Agriculture Minister Dith Tina emphasized the need for more sophisticated processing techniques that add value to local commodities such as rice, cashew, rubber, and fisheries products.

Highlighting the potential of Cambodia's agricultural sector, Tina stressed that enhancing processing capabilities is essential for boosting the quality and marketability of Cambodian produce on the global stage.

The minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Cambodia Agrifood Trade and Investment Forum to advance agricultural development programs. He expressed optimism that these initiatives, which involve various stakeholders from both the supply and demand sides of the market, will yield substantial benefits for Cambodian farmers and the national economy as a whole.
